Sheen Memorial

P1020599The Ararat-Eskijian Museum is in the bottom floor of the Sheen Memorial Chapel. The Chapel is open to Christians on a non-denominational basis and has no political affiliation. Luther Eskijian, the architect, desired to reproduce an exterior structure resembling ancient Armenian churches as closely as possible.

Among other interior facets the altar is designed after the church at Etchmiadzine, with eagle carvings at the top of the columns, similar to those of the Sixth Century church at Ani. The bas relief angel carvings replicate those of the church at Aght’amar from the Eleventh Century located in Van.
